Judge Dr. Dragisa B. Slijepcevic

Dragiša B. Slijepčević was born in Sečanj, Vojvodina, on December 17, 1955. He completed his primary and secondary school education at his birthplace. He graduated from Belgrade Law School in 1978 and was the valedictorian of his class. He received his LL.M and MSc (Economics) degrees from the Independent Non-State University in Novi Sad, in February 2006. He received his PhD from Belgrade Law School, the University of Belgrade in 2009. He received his professional training at Ceel Institute in Prague, the Czech Republic, within the project of Human Rights Protection in Democratic Legal Systems, as well as at the Federal Commercial Court in Los Angeles, USA.

After graduation he became the teacher of law subjects at the grammar school “Vuk Karadžic” in Sečanj. He was elected judge of the Municipal Court in Sečanj in 1980 and of the District Court in Zrenjanin in 1990. His judicial duties in the District Court ceased in 1992 when he was elected judge of the Commercial Court in Zrenjanin. In 1996 he was appointed to the High Commercial Court in Belgrade, where he served as a judge of the Civil Division and the deputy president of the Division of Case-Law. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in Belgrade in November 1999. As Supreme Court Judge, he discharged duties of Deputy President of the Civil Division, President of the Commercial Council and Editor-in-Chief of the Case Law Bulletin issued by the court. Before inauguration as Constitutional Court Judge, he was a member of the High Council of Justice. He was on the commission for drafting the Law on Free Legal Aid and president of the commission for drafting the Law on the High Council of Justice.

He was appointed as Constitutional Court Judge in November 2007.

He was President of the Constitutional Court from 2011 to 2014.

As a member of the Board, he takes active part in the work of the Corporate Lawyers Association. He is also involved in the activities of the Kopaonik School of Natural Law in the capacity of co-organizer of the Session on Bankruptcy and Commercial Society. He has participated in numerous round tables in the area of commercial and bankruptcy law. He is the co-author of the book “Commentary on Bankruptcy Law”.

He is the author of dozens of expert papers in the area of civil and commercial law. He is especially involved in current issues pertaining to the application of the Law on bankruptcy, which he dealt with in more than twenty expert papers.
